Pushing The Limits

Night of Adventure, Leicester Square

If you have an interest in travel and adventure then you need to check out Night of Adventure, an evening of fast-paced Pecha Kucha style presentations from some of the best adventurers around today, in support of Hopes and Homes for Children. Pecha Kucha (Japanese for chit chat) originated in Tokyo as a quirky way to make to make presentations more creative, engaging and fun, no death by powerpoint allowed. Each presenter has 20 slides to get their message across, automated to show for just 20 seconds each. The results are really fun, concise and fast-paced presentations that you can’t ignore.

Night of Adventure is the brain-child of adventurer and author Alastair Humphreys, who’s a patron and passionate supporter of Hope and Homes for Children. Al describes the event as “a celebration of the spirit of adventure in all its guises.” Last year I went along to the Edinburgh Night of Adventure and was blown away by each and every presentation, this year I’m really stoked to be giving my own presentation at the first Night of Adventure of 2012 in Leicester Square, London, on the 20th February.

Al’s going to be away rowing the Atlantic, as you do, so host for the night will be Dave Cornthwaite and I’ll be in the company of an eclectic mix of adventurers including Polar Explorer Ann Daniels and all-round adventure superman Mark Kalch. I still haven’t decided what I’m going to talk about yet either!

Night of Adventure really is an exciting, sell-out event where the spectrum of explorers, daredevils and pioneers, come together to share their experiences with an enthusiastic and vocal audience. 20 x 20 seconds means once the talks begin there’s no stopping or going back, and each presenter has just 6 minutes, 40 seconds before they’re pushed off stage at the end of their allotted time.

Here’s a couple videos from previous presentations at Night of Adventure by Al Humphries and Ed Stafford to give you and idea of  what to expect and hopefully whet your appetite for adventure before the weekend.
